Counseling Resources

Our mission is to foster growth, development and educational achievement through advocacy, education and support for all students.
What Does a School Counselor Do?
School counselors help all students acquire the knowledge, attitude and skills needed to be successful in academic, career, and social/emotional development.
At Carver Elementary School, this happens at 3 different levels:
Level 1- All students receive SEL (social-emotional lessons). These lessons teach students many different social-emotional skills, such as identifying and expressing emotions appropriately, coping skills, communication skills, and problem-solving skills.
Level 2- Some students receive small group counseling and/or instruction. Small group counseling and instruction are for students who need extra help learning specific skills. Small group counseling is typically short-term (4-6 weeks).
Level 3- Few students receive short-term individual counseling. Individual counseling is meant for students who have higher individual needs or need help with a problem that is not appropriate for a group setting.
**If a student needs more support beyond what I can offer, there are other supports available. Please contact me to discuss it!**
Confidentiality
We are here to support you, we value building relationships and recognize that a huge component of this involves trust. Therefore, most information shared with us is confidential. It is important to note, however, that confidentiality must be broken in the following situations:
- If a student reports that they are being or have been harmed by someone
- If a student reports that they plan to harm someone or have harmed someone
- If a student reports that they have or are planning to harm himself or herself
